Cymbeline

It takes a certain boldness to tackle Cymbeline, Shakespeare’s unusual and rarely-produced genre hybrid. Antaeus Theatre Company rises to the challenge, moving the action to the American West and trading ancient Britain for the dust and danger of the 1800s frontier. Under Nike Doukas’s confident direction, the result is a lively and fast-paced production of a somewhat messy and contradictory play...

CYMBELINE: Shakespeare’s Tragicomedy of Love and Rebellion at the Antaeus Theatre

The Tragedy of Cymbeline, King of Britain is a play by William Shakespeare set in Ancient Britain at the time of its Conquest by Julius Caesar and first staged in London in 1611. Seldom staged in modern times, Cymbeline is considered to be a “romance” or even a “comedy,” from the Late Period of Shakespeare’s dramatic works – like The Winter’s Tale and The Tempest. Currently Cymbeline is on stage at the Antaeus Theatre in Glendale – and it opening night was October 18...

Dark Library: Paris 1925 @ After Hours Theatre Company – Review

It’s Paris, 1925. You’ve managed to secure an invitation to the apartment of Gertrude Stein for one of her illustrious and exclusive salons. Paris’ most celebrated (and complicated) expats are in attendance, amongst them Ernest Hemingway, Josephine Baker, F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda. As the evening unfolds, you’ll enjoy four craft cocktails as their secrets and innermost thoughts bubble to the surface, taking shape in prose, art, song, and dance all around you...

Review: Intersection 2019: Arrival (ATYP)

To arrive, implies a destination, an end to travels, but at the conclusion of every journey, if conclusions exist at all, are inevitable new beginnings. In Arrival, we witness young people undertaking an act of emergence, one that is propulsive rather than stagnant. Ten short plays present them as a force to be reckoned with, full of hope and exhilaration, in an event that will no doubt provide inspiration to the young and young-at-heart...
